Alice


Tom sets eyes on Alice for the first time. Harry gives him an "oh, not again" look.
Tom tries to convince Chakotay to let him get the alien shuttle:

"And if I need a hand, Harry's offered to help."

"I have?"

Tom hooked up to the neural interface.
Harry says he wants to go to bed. Tom agrees.
Tom's butt is nicely highlighted as he leaves the ship.
"What are you wearing?"

Tom doesn't show for their date on the holodeck, so Harry tracks Tom down in Engineering...to find him in a weird leather outfit.

Harry gives Tom a flirtatious smile, and tries to convince him to come to the holodeck for Chapter 37 of Captain Proton, "The Web of Pain."
Tom proves immune, alas - too enamored of the evil Alice. Harry grits his teeth and walks away.
B'Elanna turns to Harry for reassurance about Tom.

"You're his best friend, right?"

"So he tells me."

Harry realizes Tom must have stolen the missing parts.


This wasn't exactly the best episode of Voyager ever written. Plot-wise, it was abysmal. Made no sense whatsoever. However, it had a lot of little character moments that made it worth putting up with the overall lameness. It starts with Tom and Harry playing "let's guess Tuvok's age" on the bridge; he tolerates them as he might pesky but well-loved children. We see Neelix the salvageman again, at home in the space junkyard Voyager stumbles upon. There's a charming Torres-Kim scene, where she asks Harry, as Tom's best friend, why "Every time he finds a new hobby I go right out the airlock." (I'll give you a hint, Lanna. When Alice asks Tom why he can't leave Voyager, he replies, "My job, my friends, B'Elanna." Look at where you are on that list.)

And there's some lovely, lovely P/K. The scene where Harry is helping Tom fix up the ship is quiet, but shows the depth of their friendship beautifully. They tease each other and argue a little, but with such a sense of affection and rapport. The later scene, where Harry confronts Tom over being stood up, is just as good. (It's nice to find out they are still playing Captain Proton together.) Harry doesn't make a huge fuss, but you can tell he's hurt that his best friend doesn't want to play with him. He stares at Tom, a muscle jerking along his jaw. Then he turns and leaves, not looking back and not saying another word.

I really like the Harry we've been getting this season. He's more playful and more assertive than usual, but not so much so that it's out of character or anything. In this episode, his scenes were rather comedic, but they worked very well. Far better than the plodding P/T scenes.
