The Cloud

Tom with one hand on Harry's shoulder, the other on his chest.

"The Cloud" is a terrific P/K episode. Lots of great character moments for both of them, and the first appearance of Sandrine's, the holoprogram featured so prominently in the fanfic.

Tom and Harry have breakfast together. (Three's a crowd, Kathryn!)
Harry really was the enthusiastic, green young ensign in this episode. He expresses his excitement over seeing this stange, new nebula....
....only to be slapped down by Tuvok, who reprimands him for making newbie comments in front of the junior officers. (Of course, Harry gets back at Tuvok later. He may be fresh out of the Academy, but he's no pushover.)
In the dark of night, Tom breaks into Harry's cabin. (Didn't anyone ever tell him to call first?)
Wake up, Sleeping Beauty!
Harry wakes up to find Tom in his bedroom, undressing him. (Okay, just taking off his sleep mask, but still....)
"Dark enough for ya?"
"How'd you get in here?"

"You'd be surprised, the things you learn in prison."

It's hard to tell, but I swear Harry is at least shirtless underneath that blanket. (Though in many other episodes, we see him wearing a t-shirt and shorts to bed. Maybe he decided he'd better, if Paris was going to be breaking into his bedroom in the middle of the night. ;-)
These two always walk way closer to each other than necessary....and way closer than any other Voyager pair. Including Tom and B'Elanna.

Though Harry puts his uniform on, it looks like he didn't bother to comb his hair. Hey, who says he's uptight?

I just included this one because it shows us silhouettes of both their cute butts!
Tom gets upset when Harry tries to order tea instead of something alcoholic. I thought this was especially funny because Tom seemed totally absorbed in Ricky. But no, he's really watching Harry! Even though Harry didn't speak very loud, Tom hears, and comes charging in.

It's reminscent of that scene in "Caretaker," when Tom is seemingly enthralled with that farm girl. Harry tells him, "She's only a hologram," but Tom is not dissuaded. Until Harry takes off without him - then Tom forgets the girl and chases after Harry.

Tom and Harry, with their arms around each other in Sandrine's. (Geez, you two. Get a room!)
You shrug it off, or you like to make the rest of us think you're shrugging it off. But you miss it too, don't you?

What?

Home.

Your shot, Harry.

Tom tells Janeway he loves dogs, and has always had one. (Well, Harry certainly is very puppyish in this episode! :-)
"Ah, you've got a lot to learn, jeune homme [young man]. But then, ah, I've got a lot to teach."

Sandrine then tries to kiss Harry, who jerks away, startled. He really is an innocent. Not so much because he didn't want to kiss Sandrine, but because he was so surprised when she tried it. A more experienced person would realize that when a woman is plastered all over you, caressing you, she just might have romantic thoughts on her mind!

(And it's interesting that Sandrine wants to, er, initiate him. She was programmed by Paris, after all. What she wants is really what he wants!)

This episode gave us a lot of interesting information about Tom and Harry. We find out that Tom does miss Earth after all, though he pretends he doesn't. That he learned to pick locks in prison. That he's always had a pet dog. That he spent his second semester in Marseilles, France, hanging out in a French bistro called Sandrine's. That he loves pool...but isn't quite good enough to beat Chakotay.

We see Harry as very much the green ensign in this episode. Tuvok reprimands him for making careless, enthusiastic comments on the bridge, and Harry twits him by throwing his own words back at him later. When giving the captain a damage report, he overlooks something, and has to be gently corrected by Chakotay. He's shown to be a bit of a geek: sleeping with an eye mask, reluctant to drink alcohol because it gives him heartburn...and claiming that he remembers being in his mother's womb. (Is this their way of emphasizing that he's the "baby on board"?)

All in all, a great episode for Tom and Harry. Here are some more images.
