A P/K Concordance

Last updated February 20, 2001

An alphabetical guide and reference to
Star Trek: Voyager, particularly the material that pertains to Paris and Kim.

People are listed last name first. Spelling is from the closed-captioning, where possible. Only material from the aired episodes is counted as canon. Information from the novels and even the official website is considered apocryphal; some of it directly contradicts information given in episodes. Unless it's in an aired episode, it doesn't count!

Abaddon   Person. An alien junk dealer. Proprietor of Abaddon's Repository of Lost Treasures. Sells Alice to Tom for three used power cells and Tom's jukebox. ["Alice"]

Academics   Tom seems to have struggled a bit with his studies. He got a B- in Survival (which his father was teaching), and almost failed Stellar Cartography. (Guess it's not his mind the Delaney sisters are interested in. ;-) His degree is in Astrophysics. Harry graduated at the top of his class, with Interstellar Honors. He did claim that his roommate, MacAllister, got him through fourth-year Quantum Chemistry. Harry graduated from Starfleet Academy on stardate 47918. ["Non Sequitur"]

Age   Voyager was lost in the Delta Quadrant in 2371. Harry (born in 2349) is 22 years old then. ["Eye of the Needle"] Tom is older, but we don't know how much older. Tom hints that Caldic Prime happened ten years before he broke the warp 10 barrier, which would make him at least 31 when he joins Voyager, and probably 32 or 33 - ten or eleven years older than Harry. ["Threshold"] B'Elanna was born in about 2345 - four years older than Harry, six or seven years younger than Tom. Janeway was born in about 2331, and Chakotay was born in 2328. ["Endgame"] There is hopelessly conflicting information on Tuvok and Seven, but most likely, Tuvok was born in 2263 or 2264 ["Flashback"] , and Seven was born in 2349 or 2350. ["The Raven," "Dark Frontier"] . Kes was born in about 2370. ["Twisted"]

Akritiri   Place. Planet where Tom and Harry went for shore leave, only to be falsely convicted as terrorists and thrown in prison. The prisoners thought they were 300 meters underground, but were actually in a space station. ["The Chute"]

Alice   Thing. A used alien spacecraft that ends up possessing Tom. It has a neural interface, that allows it to take control of its pilot. It appears to him as a beautiful, dark-haired woman...presumably resembling Alice Battisti, the girl he named her after. It's destroyed when it's flown into a particle fountain with its shields down. ["Alice"]

Alpha Quadrant   Place. The section of space where Earth is, and where all the other Star Trek series take place.

Ballard, Ensign Lyndsay   Person. A crewmate Harry knew at the Academy. She was a fellow cadet, and lived across the hall from him in the cadet dormitory. She was a close friend of Harry's. He had a crush on her, and even rearranged his class schedule to be with her, but decided not to pursue her once they were both assigned to Voyager. (Don't ask how this fits in with Libby. It doesn't.) She was an engineer, liked to ice skate and to listen to Harry play clarinet, and was something of a slob. Her father was a college professor. She was killed by the Hirogen on an away mission with Harry. Three years later, she returned to Voyager, having been resurrected by the Kobali. But she realizes she no longer belongs there, and returns to the Kobali...breaking Harry's heart. Again. ["Ashes To Ashes"]

Banea   The feather-headed people who accused Tom of murder in ["Ex Post Facto"] . Enemies of the Numiri.

Battisti, Alice   Person. A smart, sexy woman Tom knew at the Academy...who wouldn't give him the time of day. ["Alice"]

Baytart, Ensign Pablo   Person. Harry's neighbor, who is disturbed by Harry's clarinet playing and expresses it by banging on the wall. ["The Thaw"] Baytart's own hobby is juggling. ["Investigations"]

Birthdays   So far, we haven't been told Tom's or Harry's birthday. We know Janeway's birthday is May 20 ["Year of Hell"], and Kes' birthday is Stardate 48945.8. ["Twisted"] Neelix makes a blue cake that's "seven layers of Jibalian fudge," with icing "made from pureed K'moti nuts, Kes's favorite." It looks like the same cake he made for Ensign Jetal's birthday in ["Latent Image"] .

Blue Alert   A "blue alert" means that Voyager is going to land.

Byrd, Daniel   Person. B'Elanna's childhood classmate, who used to taunt her by calling her "Miss Turtlehead." ["Juggernaut"] Probably not the same Danny Byrd who was Harry's best friend at the Academy; Harry and B'Elanna are about four years apart in age, and it seems unlikely that the same Daniel Byrd could be both of their classmates.

Byrd, Danny   Person. Harry's best friend (back in the Alpha Quadrant, before he met Tom), and one of his classmates at the Academy. In the alternate timeline of "Non Sequitur," Danny had been assigned to Voyager in Harry's place. ["Non Sequitur"]

Caldic Prime   Place. Planet where Tom crashed a shuttle, killing three Starfleet officers. ["Caretaker"]

Captain Proton   Thing. Tom's black and white holoprogram, based on 1930's SF serials such as Flash Gordon.

Cavit   Person. Voyager's original first officer. He was killed by the displacement wave that stranded them in the Delta Quadrant, and was replaced by Chakotay. Cavit didn't like Tom Paris, because of his criminal past. Cavit and the ship's human doctor (who also died in the displacement wave) warned Harry to stay away from Tom. ["Caretaker"]

Ch'Rega   Person. Klingon woman who wanted to mate with Harry. ["Prophecy"]

The Chute   Thing. The only way in or out of the Akritirian prison. A long tube down which food and new prisoners slid. ["The Chute"]

The Clamp   Thing. A device implanted in all Akritirian prisoners, which increases aggression. It looked like a metal stud on the back of the prisoner's head, almost invisible under the hair. ["The Chute"]

Clarinet   Thing. Harry plays the clarinet, and was good enough to be in the Julliard Youth Symphony. He left his instrument at home; his mother tried to send it to him, but Janeway wouldn't let her. After they got stranded in the Delta Quadrant, Harry replicated a clarinet. It took a week's worth of rations. ["Parturition"]

Cochrane Medal of Excellence for Outstanding Advances In Warp Theory   Thing. An honor Harry earned before he was eight months out of the Academy, in the alternate timeline. Don't know about our Harry, but that Harry was apparently an engineering genius. ["Non Sequitur"]

Cosimo   Person. Alien from another dimension, who tries to ease Harry's transition to another timeline. When Harry refuses to stay, Cosimo helps him leave. ["Non Sequitur"]

Crabtree, Susie   Person. Tom Paris' first love. She dumped him during his first year at the Academy. He "broke out in hives, couldn't get out of bed for a week, almost failed Stellar Cartography, and walked around in a daze for the rest of the year." He's over her, but still thinks about her with regret from time to time. ["Lifesigns"]

Crew quarters   Tom's quarters are on Deck 4, section 3-C. Harry's are on Deck 6. (Above and below Sickbay, which is Deck 5.) Harry's door number is 105-2. ["Waking Moments"] High-ranking officers like the Captain and Tuvok have huge suites, but even lowly ensigns have spacious private quarters with living area, sleeping area, bathroom, computer terminal, and replicator. Unlike on the Enterprise, crew quarters on Voyager are scattered throughout the ship. Janeway's quarters are on Deck 3. Nicoletti and Wildman are on Deck 4, Tuvok is on Deck 6, Ayala on Deck 7, and Kes, Lon Suder, and Seven of Nine are on Deck 8. (Though Seven is in Cargo Bay 2, not in regular crew quarters.) Torres, of course, is on Deck 9, Section 12. Blueprints of Tom's and Harry's cabins.

Delaneys   People. Jenny and Megan. Beautiful auburn-haired twins assigned to Stellar Cartography. Voyager's resident babes. They double-date Harry and Tom sometimes. Tom can't tell them apart, but according to Harry, Megan is "quiet and artistic," while Jenny is "aggressive and sometimes annoying." And Megan has a cute dimple in her right cheek that Jenny lacks. ["Thirty Days"]

Demonica   Person. Evil villainess in the Captain Proton program. Jenny Delaney's role. ["Thirty Days"]

Delta Flyer   Thing. A shuttle designed by Tom, Harry, B'Elanna, and others. It's faster than standard-issue shuttles.

Delta Quadrant   Place. The section of space where Voyager is stranded, 70,000 light years from home.

Drinks   Tom likes wine. French wine. He also likes mix of spinach and pear juice. (Or so he told Kes. My first thought was that it was a cruel joke, but Tom wouldn't do that to Kes.) And Tom ordered "Rekarri starbursts, all around" in the resort holoprogram. ["Warlord"] Harry likes tea. ["The Cloud"] The Harry in the alternate universe of ["Non Sequitur"] had "Vulcan mocha, extra-sweet" every morning, but whether our Harry does is unknown.

Enari   People. Powerful race at war with the Kraylor. ["Nightingale"]

Ethnicity   Despite Harry's propensity for quoting Chinese proverbs, Kim is a Korean name, so we can assume he's at least part Korean. Paris is an English or French surname, ultimately from Patrice, the French version of Patricius (Patrick).

Exeter   Thing. Starship where Tom was assigned sometime before he went to prison. Presumably his first posting after graduating from the Academy.

Fair Haven   A holoprogram of a 19th century Irish village, created by Tom.

Family   Harry is an only child, born after his parents had given up hope of having children. As might be expected, his parents doted on him. So much so that he worries he's unworthy of the attention. ["Favorite Son"] We don't know if Tom has any siblings. He is the son of Admiral Paris, and felt a lot of pressure to live up to the family name. Though a lot of fanfic speculates that Admiral Paris was abusive, there's no proof of this in the canon. Clearly, Tom feels he was a disappointment to his father, but how his father felt about it was never established. At any rate, in ["Pathfinder"] Owen Paris is shown to be a loving and devoted father, who tells Tom he's proud of him. It's clear that both Tom and Harry love their parents a lot.

Food   We know Tom likes "hot, plain tomato soup." ["Caretaker"] He considers peanut butter and jelly sandwiches to be "comfort food." ["Persistence of Vision"] In ["Meld"], Tom plans a lunch that includes "prime rib, medium rare, mashed potatoes, creamed spinach, maybe some Yorkshire pudding." He's very fond of pizza - particularly pepperoni pizza with Kavarian olives. ["Threshold"] And in ["The Chute"] , we find out a lot of Tom's and Harry's favorite foods. Tom: crown roast of lamb with wild rice, barbecued T-bone steak with baked Risan beans, baked potatoes, deep-fried onion rings, grilled mushrooms, cherry pie. Harry: shrimp with fettran sauce and flambe noodles, fudge ripple pudding.

Goodheart, Constance   Person. The blonde, busty, scantily-clad heroine of the Captain Proton holoprogram. Captain Proton's secretary. She gets captured and screams a lot.

Height   Though we've never been given an exact height for either Tom or Harry, based on the actors' heights, Harry is 5'-11" (180 cm) and Tom is 6'-2" (188 cm).

Hobbies   Tom is fond of 20th century history, particularly American pop culture. ["Future's End," "Vis a Vis"] He likes pool, and teaches Harry the game. ["The Cloud"] He's a rock climber. ["Blood Fever"] He has skiing ["Waking Moments"] and hockey ["Ashes To Ashes"] holoprograms. Harry plays the clarinet, and later the saxophone. He likes 20th century movies. ["Year of Hell, Part 1," "The Killing Game, Part 2"] He plays kal-toh with Tuvok. He loves sports, especially volleyball. He was captain of the velocity team at the Academy ["The Disease"] and "three-time Academy champion" at Parisses Squares. ["Tsunkatse"] He also seems to like classic literature; his holoprogram was based on Beowulf. ["Heroes and Demons"] We see Tom and Harry playing ping-pong ["Relativity"] and hoverball ["Waking Moments"] , and they play golf as well ["Vis a Vis"].

Hockey  Thing. Tom sees a hockey game on TV. ["Memorial"] It inspires him to create a hockey holoprogram. ["Ashes To Ashes"] Harry knows how to ice-skate, but he doesn't like the cold. However, Tom does eventually succeed in getting Harry to play hockey with him. They wear gold and red uniforms; Harry is #7, Tom is #8. ["Critical Care"]. Photo

Hoverball  Thing. A game Tom and Harry play on the Holodeck. ["Waking Moments"]

Inaprovaline  Thing. An all-purpose drug the Doctor seems to use for everything: counteracting the effects of alcohol, fixing burned lungs, resuscitating people who are dying. You name it, this drug can fix it.

Ice Skating  Thing. Harry hates the cold, but he learned to ice skate at the Academy, in order to be with Lyndsay Ballard. ["Ashes To Ashes"]

Jefferies Tubes   Maintenance shafts found on all Federation starships and shuttles. They may be horizontal or vertical, and are large enough to crawl through. Named after Matt Jefferies, prop and set designer from TOS.

Jessen   Person. Pretty blond Enaran who took a shine to Harry. ["Remember"]

Jetal, Ensign Ahni   Person. Pretty young brunette, who helped Tom design the Delta Flyer. She died after being shot by an alien. The EMH had to choose between saving her or Harry, and chose Harry. ["Latent Image"]

Jhet'leya   Person. Lyndsay Ballard's Kobali name. ["Ashes To Ashes"]

Kal-toh   Thing. A Vulcan boardgame, far more complex than chess. Looks kind of like a sculpture of metallic pick-up sticks. Tuvok is teaching Harry to play it. Harry finds it surprisingly addictive. ["Alter Ego," "The Omega Directive"]

Kim, Dennis   Person. A cousin of Harry's, back in the Alpha Quadrant. He writes to Harry after contact with home is established. ["Repression"]

Kim, John   Person. Harry's father. ["Author, Author"]

Kim, Mary   Person. Harry's mother. She teaches the eighth grade. ["Author, Author"]

Kinbori   An alien race who play a sacred game with a strange, multi-armed racket. Tom and Harry try to play it, and end up getting in a street brawl because they don't understand the rules. ["Survival Instinct"]

Kinkaide, Buster   Person. Captain Proton's trusty sidekick. Harry's role in the holoprogram.

Kobali   People. Aliens who reproduce by re-animating the dead of other races. They inject the corpse with Kobali DNA, so the resurrected person looks Kobali - is Kobali. Usually, they don't even remember their past lives. ["Ashes To Ashes"]

Kraylor   People. Race of people who ask Harry to captain their starship. They are at war with the Enari. ["Nightingale"]

K'Tal, Oracle of   Person. A character in one of Tuvok's holoprograms. As part of a series of pranks involving Tuvok and his holoprograms, Tom and Harry programmed the Oracle of K'Tal to appear in pajamas, and planned to put a sombrero on him next. ["Live Fast and Prosper"]

Lanna   B'Elanna Torres' nickname. The name her mother called her, anyway. ["Barge of the Dead"]

Lasca, Lt.   Person. Harry's colleague, in the alternate timeline where he was assigned to the Engineering Corps instead of to Voyager. ["Non Sequitur"]

Liam   Person. The arm-wrestling champion of Fair Haven...until he meets "young Harry," that is. ["Fair Haven"]

Libby   Person. Harry's girlfriend, back home on Earth. Pretty, long-haired brunette. They met when he accidentally took her seat at a Ktarian music festival. It took him three weeks to work up the nerve to ask her out. Harry is surprised to hear that she's his fiancee in the alternate ["Non Sequitur"] timeline, so presumably there were no promises exchanged in the "real" timeline.

Lobi crystals   Things. Cheap souvenirs that Quark tries to sell Harry on Deep Space 9. Tom rescues him from the scam.

Locks   Tom learned to pick locks while in prison. He uses this knowledge to break into Harry's bedroom in the middle of the night. (Yes, really!) ["The Cloud"]

MacAllister, James Mooney   Person. Harry's roommate at the Academy. He stayed up all night studying, keeping Harry awake unless he wore a sleep mask.

Malicia   Person. Evil villainess in the Captain Proton program. Megan Delaney's role. ["Thirty Days"]

Maquis   People. Federation colonists along the Cardassian border who reject the new peace treaty, and have taken up arms over the matter. Starfleet considers them outlaws and terrorists. Also, a nickname Harry calls B'Elanna. ["Caretaker"]

Marayna   Person. Harry's would-be holo-babe. A character from the resort program Harry gets a crush on. She turns out to be an alien in disguise.

Medic   Tom moonlights as the ship's medic, helping and backing up the EMH. He was chosen because he had two classes in biochemistry at the Academy - and because he complained about the Doctor's bedside manner at a staff meeting. ["Parallax"] The Doctor's bedside manner is much improved now, but with Kes gone, they need Tom's services as a medic more than ever.

Mezoti   Person. Eight-year-old droneling rescued from the Borg. While a drone, she shocked Tom for trying to break out of his cell and captured Harry, who ends up injected with nanoprobes and almost dying. ["Collective"] After she's been de-Borgified, Harry gives her Lyndsay's hairbrush, and plays on the holodeck with her. ["Ashes To Ashes"]

Middle names   Tom's middle name is "Eugene." ["Caretaker"] We don't know Harry's middle name, but his middle initials are "S. L." ["Non Sequitur"] B'Elanna's middle initial is "L." ["Equinox"]

Miral   Person. B'Elanna Torres' mother. ["Barge of the Dead"]

Mok'tah   Thing. Klingon for "bad match." What Tom and B'Elanna are, according to B'Elanna.. ["Drive"]

Nakan   The alien colonists Tom and Harry remembered killing in ["Memorial"]. Turned out the memories weren't their own.

Nasari  People. The enemies of the Taresians. They hate the Taresians for their black-widow spider ways, and will attack any ship carrying a Taresian. ["Favorite Son"]

Neeka   Lidell Ren's dog, instrumental in proving Tom's innocence in ["Ex Post Facto"].

New Zealand   Place. Location of the federation penal settlement Tom was sentenced to, after he joined the Maquis and got caught. (It was, incidentally, a co-ed prison. We see women prisoners working with the men.) ["Caretaker"]

Nicoletti, Lt. Susan   Person. Pretty brunette who works in Engineering. Tom claims to have chased her for six months, to no avail. She'd rather play her oboe with Harry.

Nightingale   Thing. A Kraylor ship on which Harry served as temporary captain. He named it after Florence Nightingale, thinking it was a medical ship on a humanitarian mission. In reality, it was an experimental ship, meant to test a cloaking device. ["Nightingale"]

Numiri   Enemies of the Banea. ["Ex Post Facto"]

O'Halloran, Maggie   Person. A holocharacter. She's the pretty red-haired flower seller in Fair Haven. She's promised to "a pig farmer with a big rake," and has a sister who has wooden teeth. ["Fair Haven"]

Operations (Ops)   Sort of the military equivalent of air traffic control. Harry is the Operations Officer of Voyager.

Paris, Admiral Owen   Person. Tom's disappointed, disapproving father.

Parisses Squares   A popular sport in the Federation. It can be played in teams or individually, and involves an "ion mallet." It's considered a pretty macho sport, like football or hockey today. Harry, B'Elanna, and Chakotay play it.

Paxau  Place. A resort on Talax that served as the basis of Neelix's "resort" holoprogram. Tom and Harry added a Carribean flavor - and some gorgeous, scantily-clad female volleyball players. B'Elanna added some buff, barely-clothed towelboys. ["Warlord"]

Pets We know that Tom loves dogs. He tells Janeway, also a dog lover, that he's always had one. ["The Cloud"] There's nothing in the canon about Harry ever having pets, though in the Jeri Taylor book Pathways, he grew up with a cat named Mousie.

Phobias   Tom suffers from claustrophobia. ["One"] (Though it doesn't seem to bother him in any other episode, and it seems a rather unfortunate phobia for a pilot to suffer!) When Harry was nine years old, he had a terrifying experience on a planet that had been hit by a radiation disaster. It's left him afraid of doctors and hospitals, at least on some level. ["The Thaw"]

Proton, Captain   Person. The hero of the Captain Proton holoprogram. Tom's role.

Quantum slipstream drive   Thing. A starship propulsion system. It's an experimental and very risky new technology. ["Timeless"]

Quark   Person. Ferengi who runs Quark's Bar on Deep Space Nine.

Rekarri Starburst   Thing. A festive drink Tom orders in Neelix's resort holoprogram. Sort of the 24th century version of a mai-tai - it's got everything but the paper umbrella.

Ren, Lidell   Person. Banean woman whom Tom may or may not have fooled around with. ["Ex Post Facto"]

Ren, Tolen   Person. Husband of Lidell Ren. Tom Paris was accused of murdering him. ["Ex Post Facto"]

Ricky   Person. A pretty, dark-haired girl Paris loved and presumably lost in Marseilles, during his second semester at the Academy (when he was 18 or 19). She's also a holocharacter at Sandrine's, who "sits and waits for him like a little puppy dog." Tom tells Harry that he includes Ricky in all his holoprograms. ["The Cloud"]

Sandrine   Person. A holocharacter - the proprietor of Sandrine's. She is French, and based on a real person.

Sandrine's   Place. Holodeck program Paris 3, based a real French bar in Marseilles, France, where Tom used to hang out during his second semester at the Academy. It becomes a regular crew hangout, where people drink and play pool after hours. ["The Cloud"] We also get a glimpse of the real Sandrine's, where Tom isn't quite as popular as he is in the programmed one. ["Non Sequitur"]

Saroyan, Maxwell   Person. Max was a friend of Harry's back in the Alpha Quadrant, who was killed by the Maquis. ["Repression"]

Saxophone   Thing. In ["Ashes To Ashes"] , Harry tells Lyndsay he's taken up the saxophone. It's a similar instrument to the clarinet, so Harry could learn to play it pretty easily. It is, however, a lot louder. Ensign Baytart must be thrilled.

Sir   It's Starfleet tradition to call superior officers "Sir," whether they are male or female. (Like Saavik was called Mr. Saavik in Star Trek II.) Captain Janeway doesn't like being called "sir," however. Her crew has been instructed to call her "Captain," or, if they must, "Ma'am." ["Caretaker"] In later seasons, however, they reverted to using "Sir."

South Carolina   Place. Where Harry was born (and raised?).

Species 5618   The Borg designation for the human species, Homo sapiens.

Stellar Cartography   The department of Voyager responsible for space mapping and survey. It's where the Delaney sisters work. Also, the course Tom almost flunked at the Academy.

Sullivan, Michael   Person. A holographic character from Tom's Fair Haven holoprogram. He was modified by Janeway, and became her lover. ["Fair Haven"]

Sullivan's   A bar in Fair Haven. It's run by Michael Sullivan. ["Fair Haven"]

Talax  Place. Neelix's homeworld.

Tarakis   The planet where Tom and Harry remembered killing 82 Nakan colonists. ["Memorial"]

Taresia  Place. A planet of people who use men of other races to reproduce. Most Taresians are women - beautiful women. They secretly infect men with Taresian DNA, which causes them to come to Taresia. There, they trick the men into thinking they actually are Taresian, marry them...and kill them on their wedding nights, for their DNA. It's the only way they can reproduce. Harry nearly becomes one of their victims. ["Favorite Son"]

Television  Thing. Tom has an old-fashioned TV in his quarters. Torres made it for him, and programmed it with authentic TV shows and commercials from the ship's historical database. ["Memorial"]

Toby the Targ  Thing. Torres' stuffed animal, that she won't leave home without.

Torres, B'Elanna L.  Person. Tom's beard...er, wife. He married her rather abruptly in the seventh season. ["Drive"]

Torres, John  Person. B'Elanna Torres' father. He abandoned her when she was a child.

T'Panit, the Temple of  Place. Tuvok's holoprogram. As a prank, Harry and Lyndsay plan to tweak it so that the monks recite Ferengi limericks instead of chanting Vulcan prayers. Lyndsay has always wanted to make Tuvok laugh. ["Ashes To Ashes"]

Volleyball  Thing. Harry's favorite sport. "Kim Sport Program Theta 2" is a holo simulation of the female gold-medal winning volleyball team of 2216. All beautiful blonds. (Harry has a thing for blonds, doesn't he? ;-) ["Warlord"]

Velocity  Thing. A game where players use low-powered phasers to propel a floating disc. The goal is to hit the other player with the disc. Harry was the captain of the velocity team when he was at the Academy.

Voyager  Thing. Intrepid-class starship, NCC-74656, home of our heroes. New ship, with state-of-the-art technology like bio-neural gel-packs and a holosuite. Sustainable cruise velocity of warp factor 9.975. Fifteen decks. Crew complement of 141.

Weight   Harry weighs 75 kg (165 pounds). ["Repression"] Tom's weight fluctuates a lot, but even at his thinnest, he's heftier than Harry.

Yellowstone   Thing. An experimental ship, a "runabout" designed by Harry, in the alternate timeline where he's an engineer in San Francisco instead of Ops officer on Voyager. He and Tom steal it and use it to get Harry back home. ["Non Sequitur"]

Zio   Person. Tom's and Harry's fellow prisoner, who learned to control the clamp and wanted to teach Harry to do the same. ["The Chute"]
