Investigations

Ironically, while Neelix's voiceover proclaims that many on Voyager will miss Tom Paris, only three show up to say goodbye to him: Neelix, Kes, and his best friend, Harry Kim. Tom offers Harry a handshake, but Harry insists on a hug. (Awwww....) There's also a nice scene later, in the briefing room. Chakotay wants to replace Tom right away, and he and Janeway start talking about who should be the new conn officer. Harry protests that Tom might come back. Janeway is very gentle with Harry, but basically tells him, hey, get over it, life goes on. (Sheesh! Pretty ratty of her, considering that she knew all along Tom was coming back. Was she afraid Harry would guess the truth? Or that Tom had told him?) We got to see Neelix trying to talk Tom out of leaving, but not Harry. Though I'm sure Harry must have tried to get Tom to stay. Obviously, that scene was just too much for network television. (And geez, Tom sure has an awful lot of clothes to pack. Why would someone who lives on a climate-controlled ship and wears a uniform most of the time need so many clothes?)

Tom gives Harry his combadge. (Memento? ;-) It was kind of disappointing that we didn't get to see Tom and Harry's reunion. A Briefing With Neelix didn't quite cut it. Oh, well, I guess that's what fanfic is for!
